WEEKENDS WITH OUR FRIENDS, LAUGHING
'BOUT THE WINE THAT STAINS THEIR TEETHShe was sleepy. She’d been sleepy for a while now. Flying home had been spur of the moment, a call from her Papa telling her that her Nana had been taken to hospital, and she’s headed to the airport, booking tickets on the next flight out in the taxi. She’d never even thought to tell anyone, her phone being turned off the whole time. She had a Scottish phone and an American phone. Different numbers. It saved on international costs, and she honestly never even thought of getting in touch with anyone but her manager. It had been a blur, with hospital visit, arranging a nursing home for them, people all wanting to see her after she’d been away so long. Old friends, old family.
But as soon as she thought about coming home, Travis had popped to her head, and she realised she’d missed him. When she arrived back this afternoon, she’d sorted everything out, and then jumped in the shower. Laying about naked in her bunk, with the curtains tightly shut and her laptop resting on her chest, she’d finally got to speak to the boy, and immediately she’d felt better. All she’d wanted was to cuddle up next to him and sleep for a year.
Sighing, she reached down, pulling on her dressing gown and shifting out of the bed. Looking in the mirror, she sighed. Her hair was still damp, and her face was fresh and clean, devoid of the usual make-up. Kenz couldn’t be bothered to make herself look presentable. Travis had seen her a lot worse, and a little bit of ugly naturalness wasn’t going to kill him. ’Do you really want him to see you like this?’ her mind shouted at her, but she muffled it. Her crush had nothing to do with their friendship, and she’d learned to ignore it before now. She was an old hand at it by now.
Kenzie was grinning at the thought of getting to see Travis after so long. Pulling on a pair of shorts and a t-shirt, she padded out to the front of the truck, grabbing a few beers and then headed back, crawling into her bed and turning back to the laptop, waiting for her best friend to arrive and give her the comfort she was surprised she even needed..

Travis had been so busy with photo shoots and interviews, that he didn’t notice when his best friend, Mackenzie had left. All he knew was that one day they were having fun at the park and the next day she was gone. She didn’t really give any notice at all, she just sort of disappeared. No one else seemed to know where she went either and the managers were hard to get a hold of too. So Travis waited patiently to hear word of Mackenzie but in the meantime, Trav had become busy with Aubrey. Aubrey was an old girlfriend that left him randomly for whatever reason. He didn’t know why she left him but she was suddenly back in his life wreaking all kinds of havoc from shoving and screaming at him to apologizing and crying. Trav didn’t know what to make of this whole situation he got himself into, so he needed a second opinion. Sure he loved Aubrey but he didn’t know if he could fully trust her not to hurt him again. It was a big mess that maybe Kenz could help him sort out. But that was for another time. Tonight would just be spending time with his bestie and catching up on the past month she’d missed out on.
As soon as Kenzie promised to throw some clothes on, Travis was heading over to her bus. They had parked at some truck stop for the night so the drivers could get some rest since they’d been on the go all day. It was nice to finally get out and stretch, even if the air was damp from recent rain. As he walked on, he really hoped that Kenz had stuck to her promise about putting on pjs. Travis wasn’t sure if he was in a relationship with Aubrey or not so he didn’t really want to cause any more trouble than he already had. Nothing was worse than a jelly girl. As he reached Fallen’s bus, he let himself in without knocking. Travis still hated Jesse, but he braved the bus for his best friend any time. Seeing that Jesse wasn’t anywhere around, he figured Jesse was with Carly or whatever her name was.
He navigated the bus until he found Kenzie’s bunk and knocked on the side of it. Hey there stranger. Trav smirked as he saw the beer. Oh why thank you. If there was something Trav loved it was drinking. She knew him pretty well to have one all ready for him, especially if she was going to make him watch painful romantic comedies all night long. Move over. Trav climbed into her bunk and settled himself down. So how much did you miss me? He asked her as he stole her laptop away to search Netflix for something they could agree on.

WEEKENDS WITH OUR FRIENDS, LAUGHING
'BOUT THE WINE THAT STAINS THEIR TEETHHearing the bus door open, and footsteps move through the otherwise empty bus, she smiled, shifting over on the bed so that he could crawl in next to her. She was small enough that they both fit in the bunk comfortable. Rolling over, she pressed herself to his side, her beer resting between her legs as she passed his off to him. There was more where that came from, but for now, one each would do.
For a minute, all she did was bury her face in the crook of his neck and breathe, feeling her body begin to relax slightly, for the first time in a while. To her, he smelled like home. Of tour, road dust, of a big group of men all packed into on bus. And just of Travis. The position they were sat in reminded her of the million and one nights they’d sat up like this, on her bus or his, and just talked about shit, got drunk, or lay doing nothing. Waking up in the morning was always her favourite part though. Having someone to wake up next to was good, but the look on Jesse’s face when Travis left in the morning was hilarious. It never seemed to get old.
She barely reacted as he pulled the laptop away from her. It had been resting on her knees, her bottle between it and her body. Smiling, she threw her legs over his and settled down comfortably, happy to let him pick anything he wanted. Well, maybe. ”Oh, put on Love Actually! Or Iron Man! Actually, Iron Man would be better! Can I marry Robert Downey Jr?” And the rambling started. It always did when she got excited. Her brain just ran away from her sometimes. It was only then, as she sipped at her beer, that she registered the question he’d asked. She blushed. ”Of course I did! Who wouldn’t miss you and that adorable face?” She cooed, laughing. Her hand reached up to tug on his cheek like her Grandmother used to do, and she smirked at him.
Because she hadn’t kept in touch, she had little to no idea of what had happened while she’d been gone. Her band mates had filled her in slightly, with info on how the tour had been (rather rubbish without their lead singer) and the personal lives of band members themselves (there was only so much a girl wanted to know about blokes and their sexual accomplishments), but she had no clue about anyone else. ”Any new developments, or has life just slowed to a halt while I was gone? World couldn’t function without me?” she giggled, pulling a packet of cigarettes from her pocket and offering one to the boy next to her. Her accent had deepened. Any time home would do that, cause her to forget that not everyone here understood her Scottish twang, but Travis should be used to it by now. Well, she hoped.

Trav did the best he could to maneuver a hug in the tight space as she sniffed him. It was a strange thing she did, but he never questioned it because he figured he smelled good enough otherwise she’d complain about it. He wrapped an arm around her waist tightly and kissed her head. Travis missed his Mackenzie and didn’t realize how much that was until now. Without his best friend, all he did was get himself into trouble. He needed her to tell him things weren’t a good idea and then the next minute do it with him. There wasn’t anyone else like her on the tour. She was like one of the guys, but girly. It was hard to explain and since it was Travis, he didn’t feel the need to explain. They always found fun stuff to do even when it was doing nothing. Half the time they did nothing but watch movies and fall asleep. It was no secret that Jesse didn’t like him and he disapproved of Mackenzie being friends with Travis. But Jesse wasn’t going to stop them from being friends.
Uh, no. We’re getting married, remember? Travis joked as he looked through the movies. He couldn’t imagine getting married and being tied down with one person. He didn’t think he could like someone enough to be with them forever and ever. But who really knew? Sure he had Aiden, his son, but that didn’t mean he had to settle down with Vivienne or anything. For one she hated his guts, and second, he didn’t think he was ready for that whole commitment thing. It scared the crap out of him. Trav half smirked as she grabbed his cheek. Oh common, be serious. I know you did. You couldn’t sleep at night without me. It’s okay, I already know. All of the trash magazines already had them pegged as an item and it was really no surprise with the amount of time they spent together.
As he sifted aimlessly, he raised an eyebrow and took another swig of his drink. You have no idea. I couldn’t function without you. I got back with an old girlfriend and she went crazy psycho on me, punching me and shoving and stuff. It was scary. I dunno. She apologized but I’m still like ehhhh I don’t know if I want to go back to that. I feel bad though. Travis shrugged lightly. He didn’t really want to talk about his problems with Aubrey. Tonight was about the friends getting back into the swing of things. Fall in love with any Scottish boys while you were away? he asked curiously. Trav always tried to monitor who she was friends with simply because he didn’t want her to get mixed up in the wrong crowd or anything like that. Travis was her protector. Finally he selected a random movie he had heard was good and it began to play. He got comfortable, stole one of her pillows and pulled the blanket closer. Why her bunk was so much more comfortable, he didn’t know.
